Pony is the debut album from mysterious, self-described “country star” Orville Peck. ⠀
⠀
Hiding his face under a black fringe mask, Sup Pop’s latest signee blends rhinestone cowboy pastiche with a murky post-punk filter, like the bastard child of Patsy Cline and Ian Curtis. Combined with his classically trained voice and clairvoyant songwriting, Orville Peck is peddling a potent formula from the back of his mystical traveling wagon. ⠀
⠀
Pony is as engaging and original a debut as been’s released in 2019, and it’s hard not to think (and hope) we’ll be seeing a lot more from this urban cowboy in the future. ⠀
