Resolving a 22-year dispute, Richard Ashcroft announced last week that the Rolling Stones have signed over complete publishing and royalties for The Verve’s 1997 hit “Bittersweet Symphony.”
Despite having no involvement in the the Britpop classic, the Stone’s were famously given full songwriting credits due to the fact that it samples an orchestral rendition of their 1965 hit “The Last Time.”
Ashcroft shared his gratitude over the weekend, saying, “Thank you so much Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, for acknowledging me as the writer of a fucking masterpiece – it’ll live forever.”
