The wait is over, folks! After six years of waiting and enduring multiple false release dates and track lists, Lil Wayne’s long-awaited twelfth studio album, and the fifth volume in Tha Carter series, is here at last.
Of course the question on everyone’s mind is: Does this live up to the hype? And the answer is: Yes, it absolutely does. But it’s not perfect.
The first half of the album is full of amazing tracks like “Uproar,” “Let It Fly (ft. Travis Scott)” and “Mona Lisa (ft. Kendrick Lamar)” – the last two of which have been played on repeat over the past few days. These songs and more rank up there with Weezy’s best bangers in recent years, especially when compared to lackluster releases like Tha Carter IV and I Am Not A Human Being II.
The second half, however, takes a bit of a dip in quality, although it’s still good for the most part. The problem is, Wayne sounds like he’s mumbling his raps on quite a few of these songs, especially “Problems,” making them into little more than filler. As a result, Tha Carter V suffers from too long a runtime, preventing it from being on the level of the first Carter albums. But for a project that took six years to make, it’s still one hell of an album.
Score: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5
