MC5’s seminal debut, Kick Out The Jams, turns 50 years old this month.
Recorded live at Detroit’s Grande Ballroom, the proto-punk masterpiece was originally called “ridiculous, overbearing, (and) pretentious” by famed Rolling Stone critic Lester Bangs.
Alongside The Stooges, whose own debut came out six month later, MC5 was instrumental in inspiring the punk rock movement that came to life in the mid-’70s.
