Earlier today, it was reported that French house producer Philippe Zdar has tragically passed away after accidentally falling from a building in Paris.
Both individually and as a part of the duo Cassius with Hubert Blanc-Francard, Zdar was one of the most important figures in French house, a pioneer of the hugely influential sound with major roles in beloved records like Cassius’s 1999 and Motorbass’ Pansoul.
Named after his collaboration with Étienne de Crécy, his Motorbass studio in Paris was where Zdar worked as a producer for other artists, recording albums like Cat Power’s Sun and Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which Zdar won a Grammy for.
Making news of Zdar’s passing all the more tragic, he was set to release a new album, Dreams, with Cassius this Friday.
